EBED Chapter 34 Ex-Girlfriend Blackens Every Day: Chapter 34

ARC 3: SWAPPED EX-GIRLFRIEND (2)

Linlang glanced at the sword hanging on the wall and smiled eerily.

The best feeling was when someone offered a pillow just when you're about to doze off.

She put on her clothes and grabbed the weapon. The double-edged blade had a zoomorphic pattern engraved on the scabbard. The murderous air coming from the sword meant it had consumed the blood of its victims. To hang it up in a grandiose manner, His Majesty must be very headstrong.

Linlang unsheathed the beautiful sword with ease. Fortunately, she was accustomed to this. After all, swordsmanship had been her survival skill in the past.

The woman tucked her hair behind her ear and smiled.

I wonder if this bloodthirsty sword has tasted the blood of its owner.

The sleeping man's senses were very sharp, but even he couldn't avoid the attack. Blood splattered from his chest.

Linlang took a whiff of the rustic smell and couldn't help but feel happy.

All the nerves in her body seemed to be vibrating from the sheer excitement.

"An assass— " He just wanted to call out when the person skillfully turned their wrist and a cold glint was slashed his way.

The swift move stabbed right through him without hesitation.

Emperor Wei was both shocked and infuriated. Never had he been cornered like this!

Fortunately, the man wasn't without substance. After reacting, he endured the pain and quickly disarmed the person then locked her throat with a single move.

His rough palm made contact with delicate skin.

He was stunned for a moment. Lowering his head, he examined the bold 'assassin'.

The canopy bed's muslin veil blew across the woman's snow-white ankles.

He saw her exquisitely drawn eyebrows above eyes filled with limpid autumn water. Her beautiful bones were unmistakable, but the corner of her eye was stained with blood, adding a somewhat enchanting charm.

"You are..." Emperor Wei was a little suspicious.

Suddenly, the person fell backward, and her dress spread out like the petals of a lotus.

He pulled her back with one hand and checked her breath as she rested against him. Fortunately, she had only fainted.

Stabbing the emperor and then losing consciousness. This was really exciting.

Linlang thought to herself, If the male match had only been a little slower, this sister would have demonstrated the story of snatching the seat from the Dragon and becoming the Phoenix1.

What a shame.

Upon hearing the emperor's call, imperial physicians hurried over.

"Your Majesty, allow Chen2 to first bandage..."

"It's merely a small injury." Wei Chen's expression was stern. "See to her first."

Not to mention her deception, the woman even had the gall to assassinate him.

Still, it must be said that she subverted Wei Chen cognition of those honorable ladies.

The hostility in her was so strong, so captivating!

It gave one a strong mind for conquest!

An attending palace maid wrapped a red thread around the pale wrist exposed from under the bright yellow veil. The summoned physicians then took turns examining her pulse from the other side of the screen.

The head physician frowned slightly. He seemed to be hesitating about something.

"Speak."

Wei Chen kicked the man.

"Her Ladyship seems to have been greatly stimulated. Her heart stagnated temporarily and she fell into a coma. Lao Chen can use medicines to rouse her without harm, but her pulse is extremely hollow. This...this is the omen of premature death."

"From now on, you are in charge of her wellbeing. If there's a trace of ailment, Zhen will not pardon you."

The emperor's expression was grave.

His dear brother swindled him so audaciously. He did not hesitate to violate a nobleman's honor and delivered his own fiancée to the palace. Wouldn't it be a shame if she died so easily?

Besides, this beauty had some personality. She actually despised the emperor and openly tried to kill him. He has not met such an interesting person in a long time!

If Linlang knew of Wei Chen's inner thoughts, she might have thought of a certain sentence.

Who would have thought His Majesty was that kind of man that went, "Interesting woman, you have caught my attention"?

———

Wei Chen was overcome with boredom at the imperial court. His idle fingers were currently fiddling with the crown jewel.

He waited for the ministers to finish presenting their memorials. Just when the assembly was drawing to a close, the emperor sitting on the high platform suddenly spoke up.

"Wei Yu, will you truly not regret this?"

Prince Wei wore a purplish red silk robe in the style of orchids and jade trees3. "Your Majesty, Chen does not know what you mean." His countenance was upright and honest. It was not at all like his older brother's ruthless appearance.

Had it not been for his humble background, it would have been difficult to say who would be the one sitting on the dragon throne today.

"It matters not if you don't. Zhen wishes to thank you for letting Zhen pick up a rare treasure." Wei Chen's eyes were penetrating.

"This is the dragon's fortune. Wei Yu has no such capability."

"How loquacious."

"Your Majesty flatters."

Emperor Wei no longer bothered with this old fox and dismissed the assembly.

Once he returned to the palace, a maid quickly reported, "Your Majesty, Her Ladyship refuses to take medicine or eat."

This woman was fortunate to have received his attention, yet she still kicks up a fuss!

Wei Chen strode into the inner bedroom.

Linlang was wearing a plain white gown and the black hair framing her face made her appear frailer.

"Drink it," he ordered.

The person turned a deaf ear.

The man took the bowl, grabbed her chin, and oppressively turned her face around.

The jade bowl shattered into several pieces.

"It seems that you no longer want your life." His red phoenix eyes narrowed dangerously. "Do you know what happens when you provoke the ire of a monarch?"

Linlang quietly turned her head.

"The emperor's anger brings forth a million corpses." Unexpectedly, she chuckled. "Very well. With so many companions, the road to the underworld will not be lonely. Isn't that right, Your Majesty?" She glanced his way and the plum-red lips seemed to carry a smile that went deep into the marrow.

There were numerous beauties around Wei Chun, but none had a smile more tempting than hers.

It was like a deadly poppy.

All of a sudden, he didn't want her to die just yet.

"Death is a simple matter, but what of your family? The chancellor is old and may not withstand the misfortune."

Wei Chen had an elusive smile.

Linlang didn’t feel anything after listening to his words. Zhou Linlang's corpse had not yet cooled, but the House of Zhou pretended to be deaf to any news concerning her death. Then they went ahead and treasured the person who indirectly killed their own daughter. Were they worth caring about?

Zhou Linlang didn't complain about them because they provided for her and gave her a life without worries.

As for Linlang, she had no desire to see those relatives who abandoned their own kin for personal profit.

Anyway, the Zhou family was still useful to her right now.

"Your Majesty would threaten Chen Nu with this?"

Linlang deliberately took on the appearance of losing her composure.

"You may try to challenge Zhen's bottom line."

Wei Chen handed her another bowl of herbal soup. The person hesitated for a long time before biting the bowl and downing all its contents.

The ruddy lips puckered from the bitterness and frown on her face had the manner of resigning oneself to death.

Wei Chen couldn't help but laugh. Please read this at onemachineshow.blogspot.com

The girl seems to be a squeamish one.

In accordance with his status, Wei Chen received beauties as tribute every year, but he was temperamental and often took their lives. The concubines who served him in the palace were very cautious, never daring to reveal a temper before him.

After the medicine bowl was finished, Wei Chen realized that he was holding a bowl for a little woman.

Just when he was going to drop it, the person immediately lay down and covered her head with the quilt.

Wei Chen: "..."

I say, if you keep acting so willful, Zhen will cut you down!

  1. T/NLinlang means she was going to usurp the throne and become a female emperor↩︎
  2. Chén (臣)pronoun ‘I’ used by ministers/officials when communicating to sovereignty. It kind of means ‘I, your servant’↩︎
  3. Orchids and jade trees (芝兰玉树—zhī lán yù shù)symbols of a young man of good conduct↩︎

I'm sort of leaning towards leaving certain 1st person pronouns in pinyin and using English equivalents for positions and other styles. Why? Well, I want to preserve the relationship nuances between individuals of different ranks. It's very meaningful when they use/drop honorifics. At the same time, I don't want to commit to making a footnote for every unique form of address or defer to the English 3rd person where I'll have to overuse 'this *insert arrogant/humble form of address' at every iteration. Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but reading this-this-this-this-this too frequently drives me insane. Hence, the systematic madness within this arc's translation.
