Qi Yuan couldn't follow some of his father's stammering words and felt increasingly depressed.

He knew Yan Ge's temperament very well. She was a very filial person and would never say anything cruel to her parents.

It must be because they were growing old. Old people took on the likeness of children as they aged and tended to fuss over small matters. They were probably holding a grudge against her.

He smiled as he patted Father Xu's shoulder in comfort: "It's okay, Dad. When I get better, I'll get Jiejie back. She might have wanted to come back for a while and was just waiting for me to bring her over."

Father Xu had been smiling at Qi Yuan, but when he heard this, he couldn't stop his sorrow from welling up. Fortunately, the child in his arms was struggling to crawl out. Looking down, he borrowed her head to cover his face and forced the tears back.

Mother Xu had been listening to the conversation from the kitchen as she constantly wiped the tears trailing down her face. She heard the sounds of Qi Yuan and Xiao Ge playing happily followed by the girl's peals of laughter. She quickly turned up the smoke and wiped herself.

The little girl resembled her too much. When Qi Yuan thought of how she was his child, he couldn't put her down and just wanted to continue to hug and look at her.

He brought the little girl over to the kitchen.

Mother Xu was in the middle of cooking. She immediately ushered them out with a smile the moment she saw them: "The kitchen is full of smoke. It's not good to stay in here. Quick, go out and play."

Qi Yuan had very sharp eyes. From a glance he could tell that Mother Xu had cried. She must have overheard his conversation with Father Xu.

Qi Yuan had walked through the valley of death. He was originally very apprehensive about his future with her, but every time he looked at his daughter, he would think of her and his heart was filled with joy.

Her most recent entry record was the day after his car accident.

This obviously didn't match with what their parents said.

His heart lurched, but he didn't think too much at the time. He simply assumed she was hiding in some city.

But there were no purchasing records at any city from any of the cards listed under her name.

He even discovered that none of her cards had a balance.

There was no money at all.

Her studio had also been closed down. After tracking down several assistants and screenwriters who used to work for her, he asked them if they had any contact with her over the past year. But they all shook her heads and said they didn't know anything about her situation.

The last writer he found was the one with the closest relationship with her. She was shaking her head before he could even ask, saying that she didn't know anything.

There was something clearly wrong with this.

He made a bluff to tease out some information, but the screenwriter suddenly broke down crying and begged him not to ask any more.

As he watched the woman falling apart in front of him, a foreboding feeling rose in his heart.
