After My Death, The Villain Blackened Again: Chapter 11
ARC 1: THE EMPEROR SCHEMES TO GRAB A MAN’S WIFE (8)
Two palace servants kneeling next to Yan Ge trembled from fear. Their heads were buried so low that they nearly squeezed themselves into the cracks on the ground.
Ji Zai was a little excited: "That guy’s talking about you. You might as well stay in the palace and not go back to the border. Men rely on constant interaction to cultivate feelings."
Yan Ge finally couldn't stand its unending torrent of self-righteous chatter and responded: "Are you sure that you—a domestic bird—understands human feelings?"
Ji Zai was infuriated: "I'm a bird, not a domestic bird. But you’re a blockhead. You definitely won’t understand the feelings of human beings!"
"I truly don't understand ah. Don’t tell me you do?"
Ji Zai was so angry that its feathers stood on end. It couldn’t argue with this tree even if its entire body was covered with beaks, so it simply turned its head, pointed it's feathery butt at Yan Ge, and vented its anger on melon seeds.
Emperor Yuan was in a bad mood, and it wasn't known where he went that afternoon. He only appeared before Yan Ge after she had finished her dinner.
He must have adjusted his emotions for his face was warm and gentle when he looked at her. Perhaps it was because he didn't bask in the sun, his skin was fair and gave the illusion that his faint smile was as warm as jade.
Placing a mutton jade jar next to Yan Ge's bed, he spoke to her with a smile: "Take a look, isn’t it a good match for the chess pieces?"
The jar contained the pieces Emperor Yuan won at the National Academy.
Yan Ge held the jade jar in her hands and admired it, saying: "This jar is perfect. It looks like a complete set."
Emperor Yuan laughed. He knew that to please a woman like her, it was better to use a chess jar rather than flowery jewelry.
"Zhen also has a complementary chessboard." Emperor Yuan clapped his hands and the palace servants bring the board over.
Yan Ge's eyes lit up and tried to use her hand to sit up on the bed. Emperor Yuan rushed forward to place a backrest so she that she was half reclining.
"Does Your Majesty have time? Why don't we try out this chessboard and play a game?”
Emperor Yuan smiled "Yes."
He had been waiting for this game for a long time.
He never won a game against Yan Ge. It didn’t matter before, but now that he knew her gender, he was not willing to lose at the hands of a woman.
They both stared at the chessboard in rapt attention. The match only ended late that night.
Yan Ge did not win this time and lost to the emperor by a single piece. However, the victor was not the least bit happy.
He was even somewhat indignant.
He fixed his eyes on her as he tried to find a trace of deliberate intent on her face: "Master Liaofan said that you can control your outcomes with ease. Zhen did not believe it before, but now, Zhen thinks he was most discerning."
By the end of Emperor Yuan's speech, his voice carried a trace of sullenness.
He likely thought that Yan Ge deliberately let him win because of his emperor status.
Yan Ge met his gaze without evading: "Your Majesty praises exceedingly. I have lost today due to my body’s weakness from the recent days. If Your Majesty is still free tomorrow, I would like to have another round. My chess skills have not reached the level of perfection Master Liaofan spoke of, but defeating Your Majesty is no issue."
This arrogant and proud tone made Emperor Yuan slightly choke, then burst into laughter: "Very well, Zhen promises you."
