After My Death, The Villain Blackened Again: Chapter 12
ARC 1: THE EMPEROR SCHEMES TO GRAB A MAN’S WIFE (9)
Yan Ge let out a cold laugh: "You should learn a bit more. That way you'll avoid being boiled and eaten while still helping others to pluck your own feathers out."
Ji Zai had wanted to mock her but was ridiculed instead. It huffed through its nose and its feathers trembled from anger. In the end, it simply tucked its head into its wing and pointing its butt at her face.
On the second day, Emperor Yuan arrived in the evening. The female physician was changing the medicine, and a bead curtain formed a barrier. He sat on the chaise lounge and tilting his head slightly, he watched the beautiful woman through the curtain. Her back was ramrod straight when she sat and she did not make a sound even when the medicine was changed. This behavior was not at all like a woman.
He recalled the scars on her body and couldn’t help but wonder: "Why are there so many scars on you?"
"Martial arts practice. One has to bear this kind of hardship." said Yan Ge: "These scars can also be regarded as my brilliant record."
Emperor Yuan chuckled: "For what reason do you fight so hard?"
Yan Ge was silent. Emperor Yuan teased her: "What, don't say you still want to be a man!"
"I have no choice but to fight," she explained: "Because I am a woman, I must fight even harder."
He heard the bitterness in her words and asked out of curiousity: "Where is your family? Are your parents and relatives still around? Your parents must be very powerful individuals to teach a woman as strange as you.”
"My mother died early, and I have no memory of her." Yan Ge replied: "My father doesn't care about me. I rarely see him in a year."
Emperor Yuan opened his mouth, but he did not know how to respond.
She continued: "But I must thank him. If it were not for him, I wouldn’t have this kind of life."
"You can have a better life." Emperor Yuan said: "If you stay in the palace, Zhen will treat you well."
Yan Ge did not reply, but Emperor Yuan felt she must have loosened her stance.
A woman leaving home to make her way in the world was like a duckweed on water. He thought that she also expected someone to build a shelter to protect her from the wind and rain.
"Tomorrow is Zhen's birthday." It was also the day of his coming of age ceremony. As emperor, the ritual was of great significance to him.
He separated the bead curtain and stepped through: "If today Zhen loses to you, Zhen will give you a grand gift tomorrow. Naturally, you will give Zhen a birthday gift should you lose."
The corner of Yan Ge's eyes picked up. Her chin was raised slightly in an aloof and arrogant manner: "Your Majesty may need to prepare a gift in advance. I slept for a day and have sufficient energy."
Emperor Yuan looked at Yan Ge with a smile. He suddenly remembered the cat his younger sister had raised as a child.
The feline was always arrogant on the outside and tender on the inside. It was languid when it walked and would squint as it basked in the sun. It did not tolerate anyone other than his sister. He once tried to touch the cat's head but was bitten by the little creature.
"All right, Zhen already prepared a gift and was waiting for a chance to give it to you."
Yan Ge raised her head slightly and watched in bafflement as Emperor Yuan placed a hand on top of her head: "Your Majesty, I haven't washed my hair for several days. Is there something on it?"
Emperor Yuan: ––!
He had been rubbing her soft hair and the sensation was surprisingly pleasant. He coughed softly before sounding an “En.”
Now it was Yan Ge's turn to be dumbfounded. The palace maids helped clean it every day. There was no way it could be unclean: "Is it still dirty? How about I wash my head first?"
