Someone rushed forward to shake Xue Shen's shoulder in a panic.

"Xue Shen, wake up, wake up!"

"Don't worry, he's not dead."

A cold voice mocked from above.

Zhang Mengmeng raised her head to look at the speaker with teary eyes. "Young Master?"

How did he come back?

The teenager smiled meaningfully.

"It's you, Zhang Mengmeng. Long time no see."

The girl was only around seventeen years old, yet her face was as pale as a ghost. Her cheeks were thin and her eye sockets appeared sunken. These were tell-tale signs of an addict.

Now Zhang Mengmeng didn't dare to go home or go to school. She feared the ridicule from her classmates and could only throw her pride away to latch onto Xue Shen like a parasite. He was the only one who had enough money to support and protect her as she was.

They were both the same age, yet the latter still had her youthful appearance. This girl who was known for her beauty and brains somehow managed to fool around with Xue Shen. They even started dating!

Relying on Xue Shen's former affection, Zhang Mengmeng cried and made a fuss, but the man said he liked Linlang and actually planned on proposing to her. Of course, Zhang Mengmeng panicked. She couldn't think of anyone else who could provide for her, but she didn't dare to provoke him. So, she resorted to following him around in hopes of earning his sympathy. But she didn't expect to encounter such a violent and bloody scene.

She was foolishly staring at the young man's delicate face, and so she caught sight of his faint smile. "My brother is a very responsible man. If he had a child, he would definitely be a good husband and a very good father."

The girl's eyes suddenly brightened.

Seeing this, Xue Shao only smiled.

He was just speaking casually. if someone takes it seriously then it won't be on him.

The ambulance arrived.

Xue Shao was the one to call for it.

The frowning paramedic asked him what happened, but the youth simply kept his head down and his mouth shut. His eyes had a faint glimmer that made it difficult to press any further, so they carried Xue Shen into the ambulance.

Xue Shao sat next to him and played the role of a wounded younger brother. He looked remorseful throughout the whole process, carried with an indescribable tinge of grievance and anger as if he had been betrayed by someone close to him.

With his superb acting skills, he succeeded in duping the sympathetic doctors and nurses. NO one could bring themselves to scold him.

His words were apologetic, but his expression was indifferent.

The listener was silent for a while. "How about I join you there? It's the least I could do."

"Okay, then come over."

He hooked his lips in a smile.

Linlang rushed to the hospital.

In that sterile room stood three people.

Xue Shen had already woken up and was looking out the window. He seemed to be lost in thought.

Meanwhile, Zhang Mengmeng was guarding him nervously.

The young man was leaning against the white wall with his head down. His black hair hanging over his eyes seemed to be concealing his anxiety and fear.

"Are you okay?" she asked in a soft voice as she grabbed his cold palm.

The teenager struggled out a pale smile. His teary eyes evoked unfathomable pity. He quietly nodded his head.

Linlang chuckled inside.

Having heard her voice, the man staring out the window turned his head. The eyes that fell on his clasped hands darkened.

Xue Shen suddenly declared that he was hungry. Zhang Mengmeng immediately volunteered and went downstairs to buy him food. It wasn't that she hadn't noticed Linlang, but pleasing Xue Shen was more important. She couldn't afford to upset him.

"A Shao, head down and get something to eat too," He said lightly.

The boy's drooping head seemed to inadvertently encircle the girl's shoulder.

"I remember haven't eaten lunch yet. Let's go together."

However, the hand he kissed countless times before, at this time, pushed him away.

After making up his mind, Xue Shen drew a clear line between himself and Zhang Mengmeng so she wouldn't misunderstand.

Xue Shen let out a low chuckle as he covered his eyes.

He laughed at his own imprudence, and at how he revealed his sincerity so easily.

Although it hurts, he still wants to do all he can to tie her to his side.

"Did you know? When he was abroad, Xue Shao harmed more than a few people. Some of them have special identities. The family behind them will never let him go." He fixed his gaze on her." You have to think it through. If you stay with him, your life will go down the drain sooner or later. It won't end well."

"So?" She raised her eyebrows.

"So," he took a deep breath, "if you marry me, no one will dare to come after you as the madam of the Xue family."

Linlang rested her cheek on one hand. "Is this a deal? My freedom in exchange for peace and wealth?"

"No, it's not a deal."

After he finished speaking, he waited for her answer with apprehension.

The boy pulled up the corners of blood-red lips.

"But I love A Shao."

It may seem weird for him to call Linlang 'empress dowager' but in the Chinese monarchy system, that's the most honorable title/position a woman can rise up to. It's higher than a queen/empress.
