After My Death, The Villain Blackened Again: Chapter 65

AMDTVBA Chapter 65 After My Death, The Villain Blackened Again: Chapter 65

ARC 2: THE FILM EMPEROR FROM HUMBLE ORIGINS (21)

The house was very large. Not to mention the bedroom with floor-to-ceiling french windows, the home was also equipped with a gym and cinema room. Such a luxurious place was something Qi Yuan never dreamed he could live in.

"The deed hasn't arrived yet, but it's in your name. This is the contract. Xiao Xu is busy right now. She might not have time to take care of you. You can call me if you need anything. Oh right, you should jot down my phone number."

Qi Yuan was in a state of a soul wandering out in the sky.

She arranged this place for him.

She's not letting him go back home?

Did she get tired of him? Is that why she didn't want him anymore?

Qi Yuan didn't call Yan Ge, but he scrolled through news about her and Wang Xiuming every day, silently paying attention to her every move.

Another one of her scripts was contracted to become a TV series and was to air soon. Not only that, Wang Xiuming, who was originally the male lead for her movie and TV screenplays, had been replaced by the crew following the incident.

Everyone talked about him taking the initiative to cancel the contract as a way of avoiding suspicion. After all, given his celebrity level, he must have taken the role as an act of friendship on his part to help the movie gain more popularity!

In order to follow Yan Ge's screenplays, Qi Yuan changed from a layman to an expert on the entertainment industry. Just by looking at the movie's director and the investor lineup, he could tell it was several grades higher than Wang Xiuming. What happened was that Wang Xiuming's water army1 seized the major forums's rhythm and despicably inverted black and white2. Angered by this, Qi Yuan registered several accounts and verbally battled against them.

If the bystanders were this angry, then she must be upset.

He wanted to see her, but he didn't dare to disturb her at this time and could only scroll through Weibo.

On weekends, he went to visit Xu Yan's parents on her behalf.

Either the old couple really wanted a son or she had said something because they treated him very well. They even went as far as to vacate a room solely for his use.

At first, he was too shy to call them his foster parents, but he was gradually able to follow her in calling them "Mom" and "Dad".

The Xu couple liked to check Weibo to keep up with their daughter's developments. They watched every movie and TV series she produced several times.

When Qi Yuan arrived, a drama produced by Xu Yan happened to be playing on TV. The old couple was sitting on the sofa scrolling through Weibo.

He placed the fruits and vegetables he bought on the table. After spending time with them on the seat for a while, he got up, swept the floor, unclogged the kitchen pipes, then cleaned the fish he had bought to prepare a stew.

Mother Xu had tried to shoo him out of the kitchen, but he guided her back to the sofa and sat her down. He was grinning broadly as he fussed over the Xu couple: "You two busy yourselves every time. Today I'll have you both try my cooking."

Mother Xu was talking to Yan Ge in the living room. He leaned over slightly to listen to her voice on the phone. She was laughing as she listened to Mother Xu's exaggerated praises about Qi Yuan: "The food A Yuan cooks is very delicious. He's really great. You should enjoy your gourmet's luck."

As he listened to her barely distinguishable voice, the corner of his mouth unconsciously tilted up. It was hard to cover up his smiling expession.

He didn't feel inferior from toiling in the kitchen. In fact, an unspeakable sense of pride rose in his heart.

See, he's not just a little white face who only spent her money. He could do many things.

  1. Water army (水军 — shuǐ jūn)the original term means 'navy army', but in this context it refers to online ghostwriters paid to 'flood' the internet with certain comments. Companies and celebrities often hire them to improve their image↩︎
  2. Invert black and white (颠倒黑白 — diān dǎo hēi bái)idiom that means to distort facts or invert right and wrong↩︎

I'm never sure whether to retain the way characters speak in 3rd person or just fix it. It's kind of important since it shows the speaker's politeness, but it reads funny in English. Let me know if folks have a preference.
