Emperor Yuan had not managed to rejoice over Yan Ge’s confession when he heard her say: "But it's merely a fondness. We won’t meet again in the future, and it will be forgotten after a time. She seemed to have given herself enough reasons and courage. Raising her head once more, she carried on with her confrontation: "Your Majesty has so many women. One more of me will make no difference, but Ming Lan only has me as his fiancée, and I too am his sole loved one.”

Emperor Yuan was already furious, but Yan Ge’s concise words angered him further. The grip on her jaw tightened.

He glared at the woman who wanted to run after provoking him and had no regret or sadness for doing so. At this moment, he hated that he could not break her to pieces.

She was nothing more than a woman. How dare she, how dare she treat him like this!

But when faced with her stubborn gaze and upright back, he could not utter a word of reprimand.

Unable to stand it, he released her and turned away.

He really feared that he would lose his mind and strangle her to death if he stayed any longer.

Emperor Yuan did not return that night.
